Maisy - Production Op

I don't think many Psychology students at Hull University get involved with this kind of work, but It was straightforward, matched my availability, and meant I didn't have to work silly hours at a bar in town. It was a bit of a happy accident to be honest!

Like many Uni students, I was tired of having no money to do anything - I needed something on the side to support me through my studies.

When I'd looked for jobs in the past, it'd taken me months to find anything, especially on Indeed and most didn't even give me a response. It was worth trying something new, and it paid off.

It was pretty random, but my housemate told me about KFM, so I went on their website and applied for a few roles. It was only about 4 hours later when they gave me a call to discuss what I wanted.

I told KFM I was a student and what I could and couldn't commit to. I wasn't overly confident anything would come of it, so I was surprised they offered me production work for a few days a week.

They even gave me a little choice of where I'd prefer to work, which was a bonus because I was happy to take whatever. Georgie and Marta gave me the inductions and site visit, and Marta checked in a few times to see how it was going and when my availability was.

Plus, because it was temporary, it wasn't hard to ask for time off or turn down shifts when things came up unexpectedly. Things were more manageable like this. I didn't feel like I was tying myself down to a job somewhere when I'd likely be heading back home between semesters.

Being transparent from the start helped both sides, I think. I never wanted anything long-term. Coming out with this early on meant there wasn't too much expectation for me to work every week.

That added flexibility was perfect, and going outside of my comfort zone gave me something different to talk about on my CV. Working in a different environment in a different role with a different group of people in a totally unfamiliar industry can only benefit me long-term. I'm glad of the experience and would recommend KFM to anyone.
